About

Overview of the Department:

Welcome to the Department of Biotechnology at Quaid-e-Azam University, established in 2006 as a distinguished postgraduate research institute, offering M.Phil and Ph.D. programs. Our vision is to harness the power of science and innovation, driving groundbreaking research and shaping the future of Biological sciences. Since its inception, the department has made remarkable strides, producing skilled professionals and researchers in Plant Biotechnology, Medical Biotechnology, Nano Biotechnology, Environmental Biotechnology, and health biotechnology.

In 2016, we extended our commitment to excellence by introducing the Undergraduate program (BS), providing a nurturing environment for students to gain fundamental knowledge in Biotechnology and excel in cutting-edge research areas. To date, we have conferred over 700 Bachelor’s, 200 M. Phil, and 22 Ph.D. degrees. Many of our graduates have become outstanding researchers, entrepreneurs, and academicians, both nationally and internationally, attesting to the institute’s dedication to research excellence and high-quality education. It is pertinent to mention that our undergraduate program is the biggest (in terms of number of students enrolled) among the BS programs being offered at Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad.

Our department boasts robust state-of-the-art facilities for teaching and research, with multimedia-equipped classrooms enhancing the learning experience. The availability of internet resources further supports student access to online materials. Additionally, we maintain five cutting-edge research laboratories, specializing in Infectious Diseases and Molecular Pathology (IDMPL), Molecular Virology, Nanobiotechnology, Plant Tissue Culture, and Human Genetics. These labs are furnished with modern technologies and equipment to meet the needs of our research scholars.

At the Department of Biotechnology, we foster inclusivity and prioritize the grooming and skill development of our students. We actively encourage extracurricular and co-curricular activities, such as sports events, seminars, and more, through the Quaidian Association of Leading Biotechnologists (QALB) to ensure equal and active participation.

Our undergraduate curriculum offers a comprehensive blend of theoretical concepts and practical applications in biotechnology, spanning from foundational principles to advanced areas. The program equips students with essential research methods and biostatistics skills, ensuring alignment with the demands of the research industry and job market.

Our M. Phil. program is meticulously designed to propel groundbreaking research in Biotechnology’s emerging fields. Through rigorous coursework and hands-on experiences, students are empowered to pursue advanced research in their academic journey. Our research endeavors currently focus on infectious diseases, molecular virology, plant tissue culture, nanobiotechnology, industrial biotechnology, and human genetics.

Join us on this scholarly voyage, as we explore the mysteries of life, unlock the secrets of Biotechnology, and contribute to the frontiers of knowledge, forging scientific brilliance in uncharted territories. We invite you to become part of our esteemed cosmic academy, where curiosity and intellect converge, shaping the future of Biological sciences.
